Check out my 2016 blog!
I’ve started a 2016 presidential primary/election blog over on Tumblr – head on over and check it out.
It’s called, “So You Want to Be President, Eh?“
What to expect on Crossover Day at the Georgia Legislature | www.myajc.com
Some of these seem kind of scary, including:
SB 127: Would place a greater burden of proof on the state ethics commission before assessing fines on local officials, 27 percent.
HB 3: The “Todd Gurley bill,” which would create new penalties for anyone causing a student-athlete to lose his or her scholarship or collegiate eligibility.
And lastly,
HB 194: Would limit early voting to 12 days and make Sunday voting optional

The legislative session in Georgia is winding to a close and there’s a lot of important legislation still to be determined – follow the session here:

HB 29 is a bill that could allow for businesses in Georgia to legally discriminate against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. It is a prime example of why citizens should stay vigilant.
Interview Requests
Working on two pieces and looking for interviews
I’m looking to interview transgender and gender nonconforming people on what their experience was like when they first went to college (was their identity respected, what bureaucracy did they have to work with/through,etc)
I’m also looking to interview transfer students, kind of like an unofficial follow up to my community college graduates piece. I’m interested to see how people are or have made the transition, what they found difficult and easy, etc.
Send me a message if you’re interested.
Thanks!
WRAS format change delayed by student protest
Today it was announced that WRAS “Album 88.5” would see its highly regarded format continue on until at least June 29.
It was originally announced that the format would change, giving the terrestrial airwaves to Georgia Public Broadcasting, starting on June 2.
The college released the following statement: “The date is being moved back to allow the university to continue to work on resolving issues raised by the WRAS leadership in a May 16 meeting with President Mark P. Becker and university leaders, and for GPB to finalize production plans for new local programming.”
WRAS has a well of support for its current format as is exemplified in Save WRAS‘s 7000+ fans (which matches Georgia Public Broadcasting’s ‘likes’).
One of those fans talked to me about their history with the station, “I had to rig up a tower of comics and books every afternoon to pick up the signal. I’ve been listening for 20 years now and tune in every single day for a couple of hours.”
And went on to say, “I note that many other folks in the Atlanta area have been touched by Album 88 as young people seeking themselves. Why would we deny today’s teens the same experience?”
More to come on this story as it develops.
